

Raina Sabharwal Thakur is a litigator who focuses her practice on Arbitration work, Corporate matters, Immigration practice, Civil and Criminal litigation and represents her clients in various courts in India including the Supreme Court at New Delhi, the High Courts in various States, Consumer Commissions, Debt Recovery Tribunals, District Courts etc.
From 2007 through 2008, Raina worked as a Research Counsel with a Legal Process outsourcing Company, Mindsprings India Pvt. Ltd. dealing with overseas clients from all parts of the world. During her course of work, she drafted various agreements, prepared research reports and opinions and took part in foreign client meetings and transactions. She was also involved in legal content writing and also directly interacted with foreign clients to discuss their issues and resolved their issues with respect to the Indian Law.
From 2008 to 2009, Raina worked as an Associate with a Chandigarh based Law Firm, Shergill and Associates. During the course of her employment here she independently argued criminal, civil and corporate matters at the Chandigarh High Court and other courts; drafted complaints, writ petitions, bail applications and other legal documents; conducted legal research on India online legal databases; counseled clients at pre-trial and trial stages; handled panels of reputed banks, insurance companies and other multi-national companies; took part in corporate arbitrations and also assisted overseas clients in their litigation in India. During this time she also completed a specialized Advance Diploma in Cyber Law which gave her an insight into the cyber crime issues and also gave her a certification to advice her clients on IT crime in India. In 2010, Raina decided to expand her horizons of knowledge and exposure and applied for LL.M. in the United States of America. In January 2010, she got admitted in Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University in the LL.M. (Corporate) program and moved to the land of opportunities, New York. She studies corporate subjects like Securities Regulation, Corporate Law, Securities Litigation and apart from these subjects also took up Immigration, International arbitration, International Dispute Resolution and Bio-ethics to explore new opportunities. During this period, she also interned with Lazare potter & Giacovas, LLP where she performed legal research on corporate queries, attended meetings at the New York State Bar Association, Asian Affairs Committee and client counseling sessions. She also acted as a Research Assistant to her Professor at Law school. After successfully completing her Masters, Raina moved back to India, to start her own practice independently at Chandigarh. Her Indian experience and the exposure abroad strengthened her capabilities and at this young age, she decided to begin on her own. At present she represents clients in civil, criminal and corporate cases in different sectors including health care, finance, tax, real estate, banks, securities, media and entertainment etc. She is also working closely with overseas corporate clients in handling their Indian transactions.
